"Lighting Up In Yellow"
A Beacon of Remembrance and Education

The "Light up in Yellow" project is an initiative for International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD), on January 27, 2026,
where landmarks and buildings illuminate in yellow to honor the six million Jews and millions of other victims murdered during the Holocaust. The color yellow is a poignant and powerful symbol, referencing the yellow Star of David badge that the Nazis forced Jewish people to wear to identify and persecute them.

The goal is to bring greater public awareness to IHRD and the lessons of this atrocity, transforming cities into a visual reminder of a dark historical period and a call to action against hate and antisemitism. The initiative began in New York State in 2022. It has since spread across the country. The Center for Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education is coordinating efforts in North Carolina.
