"One Survivor Remembers" Film Screening and Panel Discussion
Marlene Appley and Esther Lederman participated in a panel discussion following the screening of the film "One Survivor Remembers." Elon students also viewed informational exhibits on the Holocaust. Sharon Halperin, Esther Lederman, and Marlene Appley attended together.
Reading of the Names
Students and teachers at Lerner Day School participated in a Reading of the Names ceremony to honor Holocaust victims.
Unveiling of Dachau Ashes Monument
The unveiling of the Dachau Ashes Monument, created by sculptor Mike Roig. Rabbi Greyber and Rabbi Feldman spoke at the ceremony. Sharon Halperin also spoke. Survivors Esther Lederman and Marlene Appley, and Peter Stein and Henry Landsberger, placed commemorative stones at the base of the monument. Military veterans also placed commemorative stones.

Holocaust Educators Network — North Carolina Summer Seminar for Educators
A summer seminar for Holocaust educators. Teacher Juanita Ray, who took a photograph at the event, was inspired to write a poem about it: "Two girls — hand in hand. Their experiences spanning over 90 years. One a Catholic, one a Jew. One a teenager, one a great-grandmother. Both with a sweet spirit with eyes that glistened with humanity and love, but also with fun and mischief. This simple gesture... this taking of a hand. As Rebecca grinned and said, 'I can move a little faster if someone will give me a hand.' And the young girl answered, 'I've got you.' That gesture, that moment — that is what the truth is... Two girls from very different worlds, hand in hand, experiences spanning over 90 years. Where once there was hatred and division and the other... Now there is a bond. Their stories are forever linked by a smile, by a hand, by a simple, 'I've got you.'" — Juanita Ray
