2027 Outstanding North Carolina Holocaust Educator of the Year Award
Nominations are officially open for the 2027 Outstanding North Carolina Holocaust Educator of the Year Award. Established by the Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education of North Carolina, this honor recognizes outstanding middle and high school teachers who bring the lessons of the Holocaust to life, fostering empathy and moral clarity in today's students.
We invite you to nominate a deserving colleague, submit a self-nomination, or share this opportunity widely within your professional networks.
Important Deadlines
- November 1: Deadline to request the official nomination criteria and application form.
- December 15: Deadline to submit the completed nomination form and required letters of support.
- January 24: The award will be formally presented at the International Holocaust Remembrance Day program (location and time TBD).

Outstanding Holocaust Educator of the Year
The Outstanding Holocaust Educator Award recognizes K-12 teachers who have had a positive impact on their schools and the wider community in the field of Holocaust, genocide and human rights education. The award was established by the Center for Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education of North Carolina to honor individuals who actively, by their example and through teaching about these difficult subjects, strengthen North Carolina students' world-citizenship and capacity to uphold the dignity of all persons.
The 2026 Outstanding Holocaust Educator of the YearErin Bryant
In 2026 we honored Erin Bryant with the Outstanding Holocaust Educator of the Year Award. Erin Bryant is a Social Studies teacher at Crest High School in Cleveland County Schools. Her innovative classroom practices focus on helping students build empathy, think critically about history, and become "upstanders" against hate and bullying.
The 2025 Outstanding Holocaust Educator of the YearSelena Masse
In 2025 we honored Selena Masse of Orange Middle School. Ms. Masse teaches 7th grade social studies and draws extensively on speaker testimony, authors, film, and other experiences to make deeper connections for students.
The award was presented to Ms. Masse at the Holocaust Remembrance Day program on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
